Nestling in a hidden fold of the "Serranía de Ronda" mountains
near Gaucín, Molino Taponero is a traditional Andalucian water
mill in a beautiful and tranquil riverside location. The Rio Genal ripples
by, keeping the gardens lush and green all year round. There are pools
only a stones throw away offering safe natural bathing and swimming.
The Molino
The Cottage
The Molino is set in beautiful countryside, largely forested with cork
oaks, eucalyptus, poplars and pines. The area is rich in wildlife, deer,
foxes, rabbits and mongoose being some of the animals frequently seen.
With patience and luck otters can be found in the river which is also
the home to a variety of fish, terrapins and other aquatic life. Eagles,
hawks and buzzards ride the thermals, with many other birds in the area
including vultures and cranes.
Molino Taponero is a very special rural retreat. Many of our guests
return again and again to enjoy the peace, beauty and wildlife of this
corner of Southern Spain.
The Molino is also home to "Lanas del Rio", the craft weaving
company run by owner Paul Sutcliffe, his wife Dawn and master weaver
Howard Wimpenny, using Victorian Dobcross looms brought over from Yorkshire.
Paul and Howard run the looms in winter, producing a range of blankets,
shawls and other products in natural fibres.
